FAQs

WHAT MAKES RUBY REEF PRODUCTS DIFFERENT FROM AND SUPERIOR TO THEIR COMPETITORS? WHY ARE RUBY REEF PRODUCTS

Kick-Ich and Rally were designed to be an effective yet safe treatment for fresh and saltwater fish to be USED DIRECTLY IN THE TANK to combat various parasitic, bacterial and fungal infections. Both Kick-Ich and Rally are REEF SAFE and contain NO copper or other harmful ingredients and will not harm corals, invertebrates or beneficial bacteria that is needed to maintain a healthy biofiltration.

HydroPlex is an extremely broad spectrum treatment for new arrivals. In a simple 10 minute dip, HydroPlex will penetrate the flesh, in and around the gills andeyes effectively removing and cleaning the fish of any and all active parasites, bacteria and fungi it encounters prior to transferring the fish to a quarantine or display tank. HydroPlex can also be used in a hospital tank at reduced strength for a longer duration for situations on fish requiring additional treatment.

WHEN USING RALLY AND KICK-ICH, DO I HAVE TO REMOVE MY CARBON FILTRATION AND TURN OFF MY STERILIZER AND SKIMMER FOR THE ENTIRE TREATMENT PERIOD? CAN I DO WATER CHANGES?

YES you must remove the carbon filtration or any absorbent media and you need to turn OFF the skimmer and sterilizer during the treatment period so that you are not removing the medications from the tank. You can run the skimmer and do water changes but time your actions to the dosing schedule. If you're treating with both Kick-Ich and Rally (highly recommended) you can (not required) do a water change just before you begin dosing on day 1. Rally is treated on days 1, 2 and 3. Wait till day 7 before doing a water change or running the skimmer. If you are treating at 8 a.m., turn the skimmer on around midnight and run for 6 - 8 hours. Turn it off, do a water change and dose immediately with Kick-Ich so that you can maintain sufficient medication in the water. Wait until 3 days after the last dose before resuming normal operations of turning on the skimmer, sterilizer and adding the carbon filtration.

WHY DO WE RECOMMEND USING KICK-ICH AND RALLY TOGETHER? WHY HAVE THE FIRST AID KIT IN A BOX ON HAND?

Using Kick-Ich and Rally together eliminates the chance of misdiagnosis, treat multiple issues at the same time and gives a fish the best chance for recovery. In addition, corals covered in “slime algae” (both the cyanobacteria and dinoflagelated forms) can be treated with the simultaneous use of Kick-Ich and Rally. Having the First Aid Kit in a Box on hand in your medicine cabinet for your tank, allows you to treat fish at the first sign of symptoms before the problem accelerates

I TREATED WITH KICK-ICH BUT I STILL SEE WHITE SPOTS ON MY FISH

Remember that additional outbreaks can and often do occur while treatment is going on due to the stress in the tank caused by the infection. You must treat for at least 2 weeks after you see the last white spot on any of the fish in order to completely rid the tank of the active ich parasites. Even just one little tomite can start the infection all over again.

WHEN USING RALLY MY WATER TURNED YELLOW OR GREEN

The water will turn a greenish yellow while treating with Rally. It is not harmful and will not stain. It will dissipate in a few days as Rally does it's job and biodegrades out of the tank on it's own.

DO I HAVE TO DO A WATER CHANGE TO REMOVE KICK-ICH AND RALLY FROM MY TANK?

NO. Both Kick-Ich and Rally biodegrade out of the water in 3-4 days which is the reason for the frequent dosing

CAN KICK-ICH AND RALLY BE USED WITH OTHER PRODUCTS OR ANTIBIOTICS?

The simultaneous use of Kick-Ich and Rally is recommended. They can be used with phosphate and ammonia absorbents but not with activated charcoal or other chemical absorbents. Use with antibiotics or other medications is NOT recommended.

ARE KICK-ICH AND RALLY REEF SAFE?

YES. Kick-Ich and Rally contain no copper and are safe for all fish (including scaleless). They will not harm corals, invertebrates or macro-algae as well as the acultative anaerobes and nitrifying bacteria essential to biologic filtration.

CAN I ADD HYDROPLEX TO THE BAG CONTAINING MY NEW FISH?

NO. HydroPlex Dip is used at a ratio of 1 ounce per quart of water. A premeasured container is the best way to proceed. For example, if using a 1/2 gallon container, at the end of the acclimation, pour the bag of water with the fish into the container. Water from the aquarium can be added to equal 1/2 gallon. Add 2 ounces of HydroPlex and set a timer for 10 minutes. Leave livestock in container for 10 minutes and then transfer them into the display tank or quarantine tank if used.

CAN HYDROPLEX BE USED DIRECTLY IN MY DISPLAY TANK?

NO. As HydroPlex does not differentiate between good and bad bacteria, it will collapse the biological filtration and eliminate the nitrifying bacteria in an established aquaria. HydroPlex is designed to be used as a 10 minute cleansing dip in a container at a ratio of 1 ounce per quart of water or in a hospital tank at a ratio of 2 ounces per 5 gallons of water.

HOW DO I USE HYDROPLEX IN A HOSPITAL OR QUARANTINE TANK?

Add 2 ounces of HydroPlex for every 5 gallons of water. Do not use carbon filtration or other chemical absorbents. Dosage may be repeated after 24 hours and every 48 hours thereafter for up to 7 days.

CAN HYDROPLEX BE USED WITH AMPHIBIANS OR CEPHALOPODS?

NO. Amphibians and cephalopods have shown a sensitivity to HydroPlex.

HOW SHOULD RUBY REEF PRODUCTS BE STORED?

All products should be stored at room temperature and out of strong light. Do not freeze or store in the cold. Do not shake bottle prior to or during use and replace caps immediately after use.

CAN RUBY REEF PRODUCTS BE USED PROPHYLACTICALLY?

YES. Many stores and hobbyists treat their fish by adding Kick-Ich and Rally to the tank once or twice a month to keep the fish free of parasites and bacteria. Keep in mind that you must remove the carbon filtration or any absorbent media and you need to turn OFF the skimmer and sterilizer during the treatment period so that you are not removing the medications from the tank. You determine the length and duration of treatment, usually 1 or 2 days is sufficient

Why DID RUBY REEF CREATE THE FIRST AID KIT IN A BOX?

Kick-Ich™ is a REEF SAFE COPPER-FREE medication specifically designed to be effective against ciliated protozoa I. multifiliis and C. irritans (freshwater and marine ich, respectively).

Rally™ is a REEF SAFE COPPER FREE, broad spectrum treatment for both freshwater and marine fish with bacterial fin and tail rot, gill flukes, dinoflagelates, marine parasites (ciliated protozoa / brooklynella), (flagellated protozoa / marine velvet), gram negative bacteria, and a number of other issues.

There are a number of organisms that can be mistaken for Ich, which easily leads to misdiagnosis. Additionally, the treatment of secondary bacterial infections from ich parasites boring into the flesh of the fish must be addressed.  The solution is the simultaneous use of Rally with Kick-Ich. Together, they treat Ich, bacterial infections resulting from tissue damage, and possible misdiagnosis such as marine velvet. Timing is extremely important in successfully dealing with problems associated with parasites and bacteria in an aquarium. It's so important to treat problems quickly When you see a problem, there is no time to figure out what it is. It’s time to treat the problem. Most treatment protocols require removing all the fish to a separate tank for treating and letting the display tank run fallow for up to 3 months. The problem with trying to remove the fish from the aquarium is that it can be nearly impossible to do this without tearing the tank apart and/or damaging or at minimal severely stressing the fish. Kick-Ich and Rally work in the tank where the problem is. Dosing with both Kick-Ich and Rally at the very first sign of trouble gives fishkeepers the best possible chance for eliminating the problem whether it is Ich or some other parasite that appears that it might be ich. Many diseases start out as white spots. Assuming it is ich and treating only for ich can be very costly. If the problem turns out to be marine velvet or clownfish disease. they could end up losing all of the fish in just a few days. Hobbyist need to create a medicine cabinet for their tanks. ust like they have in their bathrooms at home so they can be prepared for various medical problems and emergencies they need to to be prepared for problems in their aquarium tanks. Kick-Ich and Rally Combo-Packs are an inexpensive way to be prepared when problems occur. Kick-ich and Rally work well together and are the best possible products to treat the tank. Treat at the first sign of infection in either fresh or saltwater. Kick-Ich and Rally are both REEF SAFE and contain NO COPPER or any dangerous chemicals and they treat a broad spectrum of problems with parasites and gram negative bacteria. We call this the “FIRST AID KIT IN A BOX”
